                   MIL-HDBK-509 (AT), DOD HANDBOOK CLEANING AND TREATMENT OF ALUMINUM PARTS PRIOR TO PAINTING (7 DEC 1998). Aluminum and aluminum wrought products during rolling, extrusion, drawing, forging, stamping and other processing accumulate oxides, mill scale, dirt and oils that must be removed to provide a sound base for paint. The purpose of this document is to furnish the requirements for cleaning and chemical treatment to provide this paint base. NOTE: MIL-STD-338(AT) has been redesignated as a handbook, and is to be used for guidance purposes only. This document is no longer to be cited as a requirement. For administrative expediency, the only physical change from MIL-STD-338(AT) is this cover page.
