MIL-STD-1812, MILITARY STANDARD, TYPE DESIGNATION, ASSIGNMENT AND METHOD FOR OBTAINING (14 FEB 1997) ., The purpose of this standard is to provide type designation systems and procedures for use by the Department of Defense to standardize the identification of Photographic Equipment, Aerospace Vehicle Propulsion Engines, Aeronautical Equipment, Support Equipment, and Electronic Materiel. In addition, this standard defines the method for obtaining nomenclatures and type designations.
